A great way to burn calories when the weather takes a turn for the worse, the Stamina Avari GX 8 cross trainer is an ideal choice for home workout enthusiasts. The Avari GX 8 is distinguished by its patent-pending Up-Link technology, which lets you choose whether to emphasize your upper or lower body while on the trainer for a more balanced overall workout. In manual mode, you'll enjoy complete control of the speed and resistance. As an alternative, you can let the advanced computer system take over, with an interactive program that keeps you working within your target heart rate zone--a surefire way to achieve maximum fitness results. In total, the trainer offers 15 programmed workouts and 25 resistance levels, helping it accommodate all fitness levels and exercise goals. Plus, it's easy to adjust the speed and resistance on the fly thanks to the intuitive push-button controls.
The Avari GX 8 is self-powered, so you can enjoy the smooth, quiet elliptical motion regardless of whether you're near an electrical outlet. The Stay Put foot pedals, meanwhile, offer 180-degree rotating toe/heel pieces that position the feet correctly and keep them in place. Finally, the trainer offers a large, easy-to-read console that tracks your workout time, resistance level, heart rate, time, calories burned, RPM, distance, and speed. Other details include an interactive heart rate monitor with a hand sensor and telemetry strap, a 20-inch natural stride, and a 300-pound weight capacity. By Crazy Cat Lady
I'm not saying this is the best elliptical on the market, but for the money it simply cannot be beat. Assembly was straightforward, it's relatively low profile, and it feels very sturdy. I'm very happy with the display and the many different programs, some of which incorporate pushing and pulling the bars, pedaling backwards, and changing speed.
I only have a couple of complaints, but none that would affect my rating. The first is that the machine started making weird noises within a few days of use, namely a low thumping in the rear, and there's some friction in the sliders. I thought it would get worse, as has been the case with other fitness equipment I've owned that has moving parts, but it's been a few weeks now and there's been no change. The noise definitely does not interfere with anything, including watching television at normal volume while working out.
My second complaint is more of a worry, since the warranty on this product is not as good as other brands offer. I considered this when making my purchase, and decided that it wasn't worth paying at least twice as much for an elliptical with a better replacement policy. As long as I get a year's use out of this machine, it'll already have been a more cost effective option than a gym membership; due to joint problems, I'm only able to use the elliptical and recumbent for cardio, and the elliptical offers the better workout.
The tray below the monitor is perfect for up to two bottles (or one bottle and a TV remote), music device or e-reader, and even a magazine. Although unintended, the smaller handles allow you to read a thicker book as they hold back the pages without making it too difficult to turn them. In short, if you spend any part of your day watching television, listening to music, or reading, you have no excuse not to use the elliptical on a daily basis.

By K. Koehler
My wife sent me out to purchase this on Black Friday morning... we purchased for $399.00 which was $2,600 off list price at MC Sports (or so we thought). Come On... 85% off list????
It is all over the internet for around $400(including one place for $325.00 with no tax or shipping).
If you paid over $700 for this I would feel bad... but for $399 it is a great, sturdy, QUIET machine. It works great. Has lots of features and my wife loves me for it.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This thing is HUGE compared to all the other ellipticals in the store. AND HEAVY. Plan on having 4 people to move it while in the box. At least 3 very strong when the base unit is out of the box. It is heavy!!!! Also don't plan on moving it around the basement. It has wheels but is not something you will wheel out to use everyday. Plan on leaving it where you use it.
These are NOT cons... they are just the reality of a very well built piece of exercise equipment that you would find in a professional gym.

By Jay Berndt
Actually, this elliptical is better than ones I've used at the gym (I've had memberships at 24hr Fitness and Health Clubs of America). I've been using it for 2 weeks now, and I'm very impressed with it. I would like to write more later about it, but I at least wanted to give it a 5-star rating.
